Cosmelan® treatment is one of the most effective depigmentation treatments available and is currently one of the most widely sold skin whitening / brightening treatments in the world.
What is a Cosmelan Peel?
Cosmelan peel reduces pigmentation up to 90- 95% and is used to treat dark spots, patches, discoloration and hyperpigmentation caused by the sun, hormones, pregnancy and aging.
How does it work?
What to expect?
After an in-depth consultation with your provider, a treatment plan will be made depending on your goals for your skin. The skin will be cleansed and the cosmelan depigmentation mask will be applied. You will leave the clinic with the mask on and it will stay on for 8-12 hours depending on instructions from your practitioner. You will wash the mask off at home and the next day you will start the at home aftercare program. This will be discussed intensively at your appointment.
Two to three days after the treatment is applied, the skin will begin to flake and peel. For these first few days, the face may feel tight, itch, and be slightly red. In this case it is advisable to apply a provided hydrating cream and re-apply during the day when the flaking is most intense.
After the 5th or 6th day your skin will be calmer and you should notice some initial fading of pigmentation. When peeling is complete you will notice much smoother skin.
Who is a good candidate?
Cosmelan is an exceptional peel as it is suitable for all skin types and for those who are suffering from brown patches, hyperpigmentation or just looking for intense skin rejuvenation. The peel is not intended for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Is there any aftercare required?Yes, a large part of the procedure is maintaining the depigmentation with an at home care pack. This will be discussed during your appointment. It is extremely important that you avoid sun exposure and wear sunscreen daily.
Is it safe?
A Cosmelan Depigmentation Peel is extremely safe for all skin types. The side effects of the treatment can include temporary redness and itching. More serious complications are rare but can include burning or scarring, particularly from excessive sun exposure immediately after the peel. This will be discussed at length during your appointment.
